QCHA Travel Teams

NIHL Playoff Update

Both QCHA travel teams that qualified for the NIHL playoffs produced shutouts and scored big victories last weekend advancing to the Elite Eight of their respective tournaments.

The QCHA Bantam Ice Eagles team, seeded 8th in their 14-team tournament, had a dominating performance in defeating the 9th-seeded Ice Dogs 3 in Barrington, Illinois.  After experiencing two close, tough setbacks to the Ice Dogs earlier in the season and finishing just behind them in the NIHL Silver Tier 2 standings the Ice Eagles started fast and stayed strong throughout the contest winning 9-0 in a determined showing.  The Bantam team advances to the next round and will draw the top-seed in the Silver Division in Wolfpack 1 out of Hoffman Estates champions of Tier 1 league play.  The game will be played Saturday, February 24 at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena with puck drop at 12:00 noon.

The PeeWee Ice Eagles team needed their shutout as they scored a goal midway through the 3rd period to break a tight and tense scoreless game.  Showing strong determination down the stretch the Ice Eagles, seeded 11th in the 16-team Silver tournament, minimized the chances of the 6th-seeded Skokie 3 team throughout the game and down the stretch.  The PW Ice Eagles now advance to play the Sabres 2 team from Tier 2 who also advanced with a 2-1 win over the higher-seeded Peoria 2 team.  The game will be played Saturday at the Fox Valley Ice Arena with puck drop at 5:00pm.

Teams that win their NIHL games on Saturday advance to the ‘Frozen Four’ of their respective tournaments playing on Sunday for the opportunity to be seeded in either the championship or consolation game of their playoffs the following weekend.
