Quad City Blues Hockey Club- Head Coaching Position

The Quad City Blues Hockey Club is seeking qualified candidates for Head Coach for the 2020-21 Hockey season. This paid position will provide you with the opportunity to work directly with young adults in a competitive hockey setting. 

Our Mission: The Quad City Blues Hockey Club strives to provide all players with a safe playing environment that is competitive, challenging, and fun! Players will have the opportunity to grow as hockey players as well as positive contributing members of their communities. 

The Blues play in the Midwest High School Hockey League. The league is made up of teams from Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas, divided into divisions based on geography. Each team will have a Junior Varsity and Varsity team. Throughout the season, teams will battle for a chance to play in the MWHSL playoffs at the end of the season. The top eight teams from the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels will be eligible for this tournament. Teams also have an option to declare eligibility for the USA Hockey High School National tournament. For more information on the Midwest High School Hockey League please visit their website.

Head Coaching responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

 

  • Serve as a part-time employee and devote the necessary attention and energy to the duties of Head Coach.

  • Communicate effectively with the high school director, players, coaches, team administration and players’ parents or guardians.

  • Select, supervise and direct additional coaching staff members as appointed by the Head Coach. 

  • Help with the responsibilities for the supervision of players at the respective arena facilities BEFORE, DURING and AFTER practice and games. 

  • Instruct, supervise and direct the student-athletes as it relates to the game of hockey.

  • Demonstrate strong organization through effective application of practice plans. 

  • Develop player skills and focus on skill development at the Junior Varsity Level and emphasis said skills and development over wins and losses.

  • Demonstrate policies and conduct that reinforces and advances the academic success of the student-athletes.

  • Recruit student-athletes to participate in the QCBHC program.

  • Off-Ice Training Sessions – ensure off-ice training sessions are provided to prepare the team for competition. 

What makes you stand out: 

  • Previous experience coaching competitive travel hockey, high school hockey or beyond

  • Experience with youth hockey organizations with a firm understanding of policies and procedures 

  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Professional experience working directly with young adults
