Beginning Hockey Programs

Neck Guards are mandatory for all beginning hockey players starting August 1, 2024

One Goal (OG): $80

6 sessions.  Players may only register for One Goal one time before moving on to Learn to Play Hockey.  This program is for skaters that have very little or no skating experience.  The focus for this group is learning to skate forward, learning to fall and get back up off the ice, etc.  Please come early enough to have your player dressed and ready to step on the ice at 5:30 pm.

Learn to Play Hockey (LTP):  $80

6 sessions.  This program is for players that have already gone through the One Goal program or have previous skating experience.  This group will go through stations set up on the ice to work on different skating and hockey skills.  Your player may participate in LTP as many times as necessary for the player to feel comfortable on the ice.  Please have your player dressed and ready to step on the ice at 5:30pm.

All players must wear complete set of hockey equipment (chest protector, breezers, elbow pads, shin pads, helmet, skates, neck guards, and gloves) to be on the ice for our program.  Skates may be borrowed for free each session from the River's Edge and returned after each session.  The equipment fitting, if you choose this option, can be set up by contacting the One Goal Director at Onegoal@quadcityhockey.com.  This is a one time only optional equipment rental:  $175 refundable deposit for players age 9 and under;  $275 for ages 10 and older.  If at the end of the 6 sessions, you feel your player does not want to continue with hockey, you will return all of the equipment (you may keep the jersey and the stick) and the QCHA will return the $175/$275.  If your player wants to continue with hockey and keep the equipment, the QCHA will keep the $175/$275.

Try Hockey for Free

The QCHA hosts a hockey event that is designed to provide kids ages 4-17 the opportunity to try hockey for free in a fun, safe environment with a trained coaching staff. No skating experience is needed!  There will be plenty of assistance on hand to ensure your child has the best first hockey  experience and answer any questions you may have.

Be on the lookout for more information for upcoming sessions.

Registration will be online at this link: Will Be Coming This Summer

What to bring: We encourage those who have access to equipment to please bring it. If you do not have any equipment, you will need to bring:

  • A loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snow pants
  • A pair of gloves (they don’t need to be hockey gloves- mittens are fine)
  • A neck guard
  • A helmet (a bike helmet works great!)
  • A Smile

What will be provided:

Skates are provided by the River's Edge, if you need to borrow them, and a limited amount of equipment available for you to borrow from the QCHA.
