Quad City Hockey Association Beginning Programs

QCHA Beginning Hockey Programs

The QCHA offers programs ranging from the beginner to the experienced player.  For beginners, we have three different programs to offer your player.

To find information on how to register for any of these programs, please go to the Registration page.

ONE GOAL PROGRAM

One Goal is a 6-week program designed to introduce new players to the game of hockey.  No skating experience is required but is helpful.  Each player may participate in the One Goal program only one time and may rent equipment with a fully refundable deposit.  Skate rental is free through the River's Edge.  We have three opportunities to participate in One Goal throughout the season.

Fee:  $80 - 6 sessions  5:30-6:30pm every Monday & Wednesday; April 29th-May 15th.

Optional Equipment Deposit:

Fee:  For players age 9 and younger, the equipment refundable deposit is $150.  Ages 10 and up the deposit is $250.

Equipment Fitting for those that choose that option should be scheduled with Allen Arndt at onegoal@quadcityhockey.com at least 1 week before the start of the session.

The QCHA will provide your player with equipment for the duration of the 6 sessions.  This includes a hockey bag, jersey, stick, shin guards, breezers, elbow pads, chest protector, gloves and a helmet.  All of this will be sized to your player at the Equipment Fitting, which should be scheduled one week before the start of One Goal session.  At the end of the program, you may either keep the equipment and forfeit your deposit or return the equipment to the QCHA and receive a refund for the amount of your deposit after the program ends and after the return of the equipment is verified.  (Equipment must be returned within 30 days of last date of session.) Your player may keep the stick and jersey regardless.

LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY

Learn to Play is a 6-session program offered to children of all ages that have completed the One Goal program or have past skating experience.  This program prepares skaters for the QCHA House League.  Skate rental through the River's Edge is free.

This program focuses on:

  • Skating - forward and backward
  • Stride with a good push
  • Hockey stops
  • Beginning puck handling
  • Short 3-on-3 games for fun at the end of practice.

TRY HOCKEY FOR FREE

QCHA has two Try Hockey for Free events planned this year for players that are interested in checking out what hockey is all about.  These events are geared for ages 4-17.  No skating experience is necessary.

  • Try Hockey for Free, April 20th, 2024; 11:30am-1:00pm

Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to check in and to get fitted for skates and a helmet if needed.

What to bring:  We encourage those who have access to equipment, to please bring it.  If you do not have any equipment, you will need to bring:

  • A loose-fitting pair of sweatpants or snow pants
  • A pair of gloves (they don't need to be hockey gloves; mittens are fine)
  • A helmet (a bike helmet will work!)
  • A smile!!

What will be provided:  We have skates to borrow from the River's Edge and a very limited amount of helmets available for you to borrow.

On-Ice Experience:  We will have plenty of coaches on hand to give your child a great youth hockey experience, they will get an opportunity to learn some basic skills of youth hockey and enjoy their first time.
